For most of my life, my body didn’t get a vote.
Not because I didn’t care—
But because my mental health always came first.
If I needed the cheese doodles, I ate them.
If I needed to numb out, I gave myself permission.
Because sometimes, getting through the day without falling apart was the win.
I didn’t know it then, but I was eating my emotions.
I was using food, busyness, and caretaking to silence thoughts I didn’t want to face.
It wasn’t about willpower.
It was about emotional survival.
Over time, the signals got louder:
🪻The butterflies in my chest that sometimes spiraled into full-blown anxiety
🪻 The never-ending need to sleep, even when I wasn’t physically tired
Eventually, I realized my body wasn’t the problem.
It was screaming to get my attention.
“Your body is your home. It’s where your life force lives.”
— Bessel van der Kolk
This is where we begin.
🪻 Gentle Prompt
What is your body trying to tell you right now?
The more you pause and notice how your body responds to certain thoughts or emotions, the more you learn how to honor yourself.
🪻 Gentle Practice
Place your hand on your chest or tummy.
Take three full breaths.
Say quietly to yourself:
“I’m here. I’m listening.”
This is Day 1 of The Gentle Reset — a 30-day guided experience I’m building publicly.
It’s not about performance. It’s not about productivity.
It’s about returning to yourself with love and care.
Let’s keep moving forward together….
All love,
Sue
My Sensation lilac is in full bloom - isn’t she a beauty?
Just beautiful, the secrecy messages our body sends us are often overlooked and misunderstood. That’s comes from the busy life that disconnects us from ourselves.
This is such a beautiful practice. Thank you 🙏
Thank you Susan. Im starting the reset today. And I LOVE lilacs!
